Hoopin' has opened our eyes to the disabled community. I'm not sure why we have a passion for "playing" with them. They accept us, we accept them. They run on hugs, so do we. When we hoop, we all play with abandon. There are no "grumpy gills" in the hoop.
It's fun to teach anyone to hoop, especially when they are 93 years old, but when we get to teach a little friend with downs syndrome, oh man...the tears just start coming!
Our Hoopini® Comfort Fitness Hoops® are comfortable, colorful, flexible, & most of all, not too heavy. We started off with 4 sizes. We now offer 13 (11 of which are padded) sizes according to the application. Our 3 smallest padded hoops were designed for folks in wheelchairs.
Often times the hoop isn't used for hoopin' at all. It can be a target for a bean bag, or a big steering wheel, or a picture frame, or a tunnel to crawl through, or a lasso, or something to roll to each other. Our disabled friends have shown us several ways to play with our hoops. Even the non-active or rather nots are willing to play with our hoops. We all get pretty sweaty.
The disabled are not any different than the rest of us. If it's fun, we're going to be more apt to do it. If we burn some calories while playing, so be it:)
